Utility Cut-Off Prevention

Are you at risk of having your utilities cut off? CEA may be able to assist you with your BGE bill if you live in our service area and are income eligible.


Eligibility

Eligible clients may apply for utility assistance once per fiscal year (July 1- June 30). You must meet the following three requirements to be eligible for assistance:

  1. You must live in the CEA service area. Click here for a live Google Map of our service area and enter your address.
  2. You must be below moderate income based on the Federal guidelines published by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The total household income before any deductions from all sources (including but not limited to gross wages, retirement, disability and any other government or private benefits) must fall in one of the following ranges:

  4. You must have already applied to the Office of Home Energy Programs (OHEP). You will be required to bring proof of this request to your appointment. We do not require that you receive assistance from OHEP- just that you have applied. Click here to apply to the Office of Home Energy Programs.

What do I bring to the appointment?

  1. Photo ID for each adult in the household
  2. Social Security card for each person in the household
  3. Your most current BGE bill
  4. Proof of income received in the last 30 days for all in the household. You may use pay stubs and/or Social Security Disability Income (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA), or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP- formerly known as Food Stamps)
